I think a lot of us hunkered down over the past year feel that way. It is almost as if the entire year drifted past un heeded. That said I did achieve some ground in 2022. I had three stories in excellent publications!
‘Penumbra Over Millwall’, Weirdbook Magazine #44 isbn 978-1479460540
A cosmic horror story from my Captain Georgi story arc in which our intrepid Captain battles fish folk London’s Docklands.
‘Devil’s Piss Pot‘ Mammoth Book of Folk Horror, Skyhorse Publishing, isbn: 9781510749 – A folk horror tale of monsters on the Sussex Downs!
Fab anthology edited by Stephen Jones
‘The Case of the Waterguard‘, The Return of Sherlock Holmes: Further Extraordinary Tales of the Famous Sleuth, Mango Publishing isbn 9781642506365 – In which Holmes on the cusp of retirement engages in a final case for his trusted ex hallboy/servant, Billy.
A new anthology of Holmsian fiction edited by Maxim Jakubowski
I also had a shared editing gig with Peter Coleborn with: The Alchemy Press Book of Horrors 3: A Miscellany of Monsters. Paperback/Kindle Alchemy Press
A superb collection of monster tales! Contributors include Garry Kilworth, Steve Rasnic Tem, Sarah Ash, Adrian Cole, Marion Pitman, Ralph Robert Moore…
Sadly the Captain Georgi book has yet to be completed – though the finishing post is in sight!
Its non-appearance rather sums up 2021. I have written an annual roundup every year on writing and other matters but been a little tardy this time around.
In Cases of Murder, the promised fourth book in The Bunch Courtney Investigations WW2 crime series – has yet to appear. But in my defence *(see what I did there, Bunch fans) it has sat on an agent’s desk since February, despite a few gentle nudges from your truly. I shall keep you posted!
Trouble is a new heroine has emerged at the back of my brain for a new ww2 crime series – featuring on Florence Greene… but I shall say no more about her for the moment! Far too much to get done
Whilst I waited for an editorial decision from the agent I completed early drafts of Bunch book 5: Deadly Plots.
The urban fantasy trilogy will also be finally completed as well as a main stream novel that was finished a while ago but never given the final polish.
The ennui that has gripped so many of us had threatened to engulf 2022 and I have promised myself that it will stop. With a lot of luck and a following wind 2022 shall be my busiest yet!
